I'd still rather pay $200 for a nice VHF SSB rig (even at 1 watt). I
got a garage full of FM crap I will never use, and no one wants to
trade money for at ham fests :-)

I can see where the hacking part is pretty fun, and how you have both
a CPU and a baseband processor, but after that, all you have is FM.
