I was intrigued by the little radio controller card they offer. I got it in
the mail today. Alas, my RPi 3 is still somewhere on a shipping truck. But
this is about $150 worth of equipment that is a lot smaller than the 57
Desoto I bought in 1969 for $150! Sheesh!
Ha, anyway, the little board is actually designed to interface to the great
deal Yaesu has on their DR-1X dual-band repeater for $600. I'm not
interested in that though.
The little board also has a 6-pin DIN. Now we're talking. I plan to plug
this into my FT-857 radio. On the DR-1X interface jack there is a pin for
connecting 12 volts, so with 12 volts it will run the RPi also.

I'm not a big digital voice person, but I do like experimenting with data
modes. The thought then is to play around with both modes using this setup.
I'm hoping I can plug in my soundcard headset and the radio to this board,
and the rest is just software...
